Beach Day

Silvia and I are hanging out at Lindquist today. We're finally getting some sun. It's been sprinkling on and off all afternoon. A parasail boat came up really close to the beach; it was pretty bizare. The parasailer was a lot closer than the pic looks.

Jim is on his way here. He's been texting all afternoon cracking us up. We're supposed to go to the beach tomorrow so hopefully the weather is better.

Friday Beach Picture

It's Friday!!! Yea!! Here's a pic of Salomon Beach on St. John. It's a picture perfect beach. This one is from CptnKirk on the VIOL forum (the creator of the Friday Beach Pic!!)

We spent yesterday evening with Captain Gary and the crew. They leave today for the first part of their trip around the world. The boat turned out beautiful, they are going to have such a wonderful time. It's a great group of people. I will definitely be keeping an eye on their web page to see their progress.

Jim (a previous apartment tenant) is coming in this weekend for a visit. He missed the Virgin Islands so much he had to come back for a fix! We plan to hang out with him and Silvia on the beach on Sunday.

My two sisters are coming in next week for a short visit. I can't wait to see them and show them "my little island" :-)

Have a great weekend!!!

Sunday Night at Hull Bay Hideaway

Well Deb and Silvia went to Magen's Bay on Sunday while I worked and then decided that we should go to Hull Bay after I got off of work and see the band that was playing. Deb called me a couple of times on the way because she and Silvia decided to take a tour of the west end. Actually they missed the turn a couple of times and went around in a big circle before they found their way down to the Hideaway. I got there a little later. The Band was called the Revision, and they needed a little more Revision. The band consisted of three very talented musicians with no real lead singer. One played guitar, one drums and one keyboards. They played strange mix of Jazz , Rock and a Reggae. They were obviously more interested in playing Jazz and put the other stuff on the sign to get gigs. They never really got the crowd into and it looked more like a jam session. The obvious exception to this was when they had a woman from the crowd sign lead on a song. This was the highlight of the night and proof positive that they need a singer in the band.

As for Hull Bay Hideaway, it was Hull Bay Hideaway average bar food with average bar prices, for St Thomas. We did have a good time and it was good to see Silvia, we haven't really been around her since she moved out of the apartment downstairs.

Sunset over Red Hook

We're sitting at Lattitude 18 waiting to see the Fidler again. The sunset was pretty cool so I thought I would share. We've never eaten here but heard good things and the menu looks wonderful so hopefully it's as good as it sounds.

Update: the food was very good and the Fidler was over the top. Much more "into" it than when he was at tickles. Since he plays here three nights a week during high season, this is his home crowd and the regulars know all his songs. It was pretty entertaining!! If it wasn't for the road, we'd come move often, but it's pretty rough.

It's Friday!!! Yea!! I think I'll go to the beach this weekend with Silvia. Poor Jay has to work :-(

I'm going to try and do a trip report from our sailing trip this weekend. I don't have a lot of pics. Our camera is on the fritz so all I have is the iPhone pics. I was hoping some of our friends would send the ones they took. (hint, hint - Rednecks in the Caribbean, part 1 and 2).

Have a great weekend everyone!!!

Fiddler at Tickles

Fiddler at Tickles, originally uploaded by captainjay.

As I was calling places today to find out who has entertainment, I found out that the Fiddler was playing at Tickles tonight. He is so much fun to watch so we had to come out to see him. He usually plays at Lattitude 18 but we haven't been out there much. Tickles is much easier to get to. :-)

Cooper island

Cooper island, originally uploaded by captainjay.

Thought I would check and see if I could post from my phone yet. Not sure what the problem is. This is Cooper Island when we did our sail boat trip.

Yea!! It worked. So whatever the problem was I guess it's fixed. Now I can go back to live posts!!!

The Rednecks Have All Gone Home

Well it has been great to see a bunch of our friends but they have all gone home now. The last group flew out on Saturday afternoon. So Deb and I spent Friday night on St John with them and had dinner at the Banana Deck. Deb stayed over later Saturday and helped them with the Ferry to down town. Then they made their various flights throughout the day.

Rednecks in the Caribbean update

Well, the Rednecks part 2 made it over to St. Thomas yesterday (minus Tina, she already left :-(. I spied on them with the web cam on the ferry dock on St. John and then met them in downtown St. Thomas when the ferry arrived. We had dinner at Greenhouse and then went to Duffy's Love Shack for some music. Devona's been dying to dance since she got here, but St. John doesn't really have any "dance" places. We're going over tonight to stay with them for their last night and I'm bringing my iPod!!

Friday Beach Picture

I borrowed this picture from another VIOL forum member it is of Coral Bay on St John, you know....... the other side of the universe. You can view a bunch more of Wakey's pictures here.

Captain Gary

Captain Gary Dawson, a really good friend of ours, is getting ready to embark on a journey that has been in the works for several years. He and his brother have dreamed of sailing around the world and that dream is about to become reality. Gary has been in Tortola for the last four months working non stop on his brother's 55 foot catamaran and it's just about ready. They plan to launch the boat on Feb 20th, stop in St. Thomas and then sail to Key Largo, FL. From there they will head to the Panama Canal and the adventure begins. They have started a web site to follow their travels Reality Interrupted. I wish Gary and the rest of the crew all the luck in the world! Happy travels!!

BTW - this pic was taken on our little sailing adventure from last week. We kidnapped Gary for a couple days to give him some time on the water and a little break from all the work he's been doing. I promise we will do a full trip report once we gather our thoughts and pics.

AH Rise in Red Hook Ferryn Terminal

Well Deb and I had a half hour wait at the Ferry Terminal in Red Hook the other day and noticed this in the back corner. I went over and talked to the manager, Valerie Mark, she assured me that they are selling for the same prices as downtown and will give a 15% discount for four bottles or more. The phone number is 340-715-2054. It these tough times a penny saved is a penny earned and the prices are surely less than on St John. The flavored Cruzans were $9.00 a bottle without the discount applied. Jay

Well we are off the boat and back at home. We still haven't figured out what is wrong with either Flickr or Blogger to get the missing posts to load. So here is a link to our Flickr account. The missing post are there. Along with a few other photos

Missing Posts

For some reason our daily posts have not been making it to our blog. Our apologies. I finally figured out how to enter a manual post so that I could explain the lack of posts. We will reenter them all when we get back to the house. I really wish I knew why the posts are getting lost. But we're having a great time and we'll share all the details when we get back.

We took off around 7:30 this morning. We made pretty good time over to
STJ so we're almost ready to pick up a mooring outside of Caneel. The
morning started a little rainy and overcast but it's turning into a
beautiful day.

Crazy Crackers

Funky litttle Bar Funky little bathroom. Well we went to Crazy Crackers to watch the superbowl so I thought I would put my two cents in. The place is nice and clean with a bunch of TV's. The food was good, but, wait for it, the bathroom should be illegal. They have one head for the whole place, men and women, with one commode. So with a couple hundred people in here for the game the line was five to ten deep all night. This just shouldn't be legal. The government needs to stop giving occupancy permits to public places, especially resteraunts that don't have proper facilities. The Beach Bar is famous for this and Cracker's is a right ther as well. It is a shame that we had a good time with good food in a nice atmosphere and all I can recall is standing in line to use the head. One of the other customers said you had to got to the bathroom then just get back in line when you come out so that you can go again.

Superbowl party! WooHoo!

Superbowl party! WooHoo!, originally uploaded by captainjay.

We found a place to watch the superbowl. The Crazy Cracker. It's around the corner from Woodys, across from Joes Diner. They have several TVs and a cool atmosphere. Go Steelers!

Time to eat

Time to eat, originally uploaded by captainjay.

We decided to stop for lunch at Shipwreck Landing and have some of their famous fish and chips.

Drivin' around

Drivin' around, originally uploaded by captainjay.

We decided to rent a car and drive around STJ until game time. Still haven't decided where we're going to watch it. But I'm sure we'll figure something out. Had to stop and get the obligatory shot of Trunk Bay.
